Welcome to my private practice, Birmingham Therapy Services. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Alcohol Drug Certified Counselor. I am also an EMDR Clinician. I have a Master of Education in Counseling from Auburn University. I have professional experience working in various community agency settings and hospitals at the counselor and administrative levels.
Therapy is a journey into self-awareness. My practice focuses on helping individuals walk through their experiences and personally grow from them. My goal for therapy is to create a safe space for self-exploration and self-discovery. I provide understanding and empathy while utilizing a strength-based approach to help clients become more aware of themselves, and therefore experience change. I utilize a holistic approach to assist clients in gaining awareness of the connections between their emotions, thoughts, and physical experiences.
I currently offer individual, couples, and group therapy services. I work with adolescents/teenagers (ages 14 to 19) and adults. I offer a free phone consultation for clients prior to scheduling an intake appointment. I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, New Directions, American Behavioral, VIVA Health, Cigna, Behavioral Health Systems, Optum, and United Behavioral Health. Please continue to check back as I am pending other insurance company approvals. Sessions are 45 minute and 60 minute in length. I also offer virtual therapy services as an option on a HIPAA compliant platform. Please contact me for more information on this service.

I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR is well supported by research evidence and is recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other painful experiences. Studies show that by using EMDR therapy patients can experience the benefits of therapy that once took years to make a difference. The hope is that the memories become less disabling. EMDR can help treat trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief, pain, phobias, and substance abuse concerns.
Biomedical conditions and chronic pain can affect one's mental health. Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can negatively impact physical health, leading to an increased risk of some conditions. A clear distinction is often made between mind and body. When considering mental health and physical health, I utilize a holistic approach and treat them both as a whole. I recognize the relationship between the two in order to maximize a patient’s well-being. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques in the treatment of chronic pain issues. I have also trained at the Beck Institute.
Types of addiction include substance use disorders as well as process addictions which can include eating, exercise, sex, and shopping. Addiction is not itself the problem, but rather an attempt to solve a problem. Individuals who engage in addictive behaviors compulsively do so to avoid the pain of past emotional disturbances and to replace the absence of connection in their lives. When treating addiction, I help patients walk through their pain, learn tools for managing emotional distress, connect to a recovery community, and develop adaptive coping skills for long term sobriety. Addiction doesn't discriminate. I have the ability to interface with a range of individuals, to include healthcare and other business professionals.
